Standing Row

Wrap band around banister or pole, like on a porch.  Move back with band ends in each hand until you feel a steady stretch.  Bend knees and keep back straight while pulling back in a rowing motion.

Repeat exercise three times with 20 to 25 repetitions for each set; 45 seconds rest in between.

Resista-Punch

Wrap band around banister or pole as exhibited in the previous exercise.  Walk forward until you feel a slight but steady stretch with the band.  While keeping both feet together, slowly punch with each hand.  Alternate punching hands while keeping a constant stretch with the band.

Repeat exercise until burning in arms – aim for two minutes – two or three times.

Advanced: Slowly punch with each hand for one minute, then punch powerfully with each hand for one minute, then punch slowly again for another minute.

Resistance Band Exercises

Anterior and Posterior Deltoid

Wrap band around stable object behind you.  With ends in your hand and your arm in an L-shape, move your arm forward as to extend your forearm on a flat horizontal plane.  Repeat exercise twice with 20 to 25 repetitions per set.

Medial Deltoid

Grab the ends of a resistance band with one hand and loop the band under your foot.  With leg planted firmly on the ground and your arm straight, lift the arm out from your side until your straightened arm is parallel and on a flat plane.  Do not lift arm past the parallel plane of your shoulder.  This exercise mimics a routinely used medial deltoid exercise done with weights in each hand and lifted outwards from your side.

Preparing for the Ravens posted on 11/14/2008

The Giants are facing the toughest defensive game so far this year.  Many people would argue that the Steelers' defense gave the most trouble to the G-men, but they were not at full strength.  The Giants best part of their offense lies within their three-headed machine behind that solid offensive line.  Earth (Jacobs), Wind (Ward), and Fire (Bradshaw) provide the bulk of the offense with the Giants, but the Ravens have the league's best run defense this season.  Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, and Ravens impresive defensive line wll try to stop the league's most complete running game.  This diverse offense will throw all that they can at Reed and Lewis as they try to inch closer to locking up a playoff spot.

Joey Flacco will have his toughest defensive test this season.  The aggressive defense of the Colts left the Ravens in shambles after they were totally overpowered in a lopsided effort earlier this season.  Since that embarassing game, the Ravens have steamrolled every opponent since.  Steve Spagnuolo will bring constant pressure to confuse Flacco the entire game.  This game will show how much Joey has matured this season.  If the Giants bring pressure and get to Flacco early and often, then the Giants secondary can expect more opportunities for turnovers.  The failure of the Giants to get to Flacco while still rushing 5+ men will leave the secondary out to dry just like against the Browns.

Digging for Gold posted on 10/21/2008

The New York Giants almost found a way to lose to the 49ers, but the defense stepped up in a big way to give the G Men their fifth victory of the season.  The Giants won 29-17 in an ugly game played on the first cold day of football in the Meadowlands.  Eli Manning managed the game while Brandon Jacobs roughed up the 49ers front seven with two touchdowns on seventeen carries.  J.T. O'Sullivan had his worst outing of the year with two interceptions to Michael Johnson -- the second year pro out of Arizona -- and four fumbles that rattled him even more as the day progressed.  The last fumble sealed the victory with the Giants as Justin Tuck forced the ball out of his hand and his teammate, Josh Morgan (Virginia Tech), kicked it out of the - resulting in a safety.

Rock and Rolled in Cleveland posted on 10/13/2008

I feel embarassed to be a Giants' fan tonight.  It's not because we lost by three touchdowns, but how we handled the last minutes of the game.  Coughlin and the rest of the coaches gave up in the last six minutes.  We use the no huddle to bull rush our way downfield.  Then the team goes into the huddle offense and uses a timeout instead of taking the mostly meaningless five yard penalty for a Delay of Game.  I just don't understand how a team can shrivel up and die like this.  It doesn't make much sense to successfully use the no huddle offense and then depart from it when you have the defense on its heels near the goal-line.

Eli Manning had some Eli moments this game.  It was bound to happen; Peyton started playing well, so, Eli had to suck.  It's how Mother Nature operates in the game of football.  He had some great passes that were crisp and clear but he used bad mechanics when pressure came right into his face.  I'm sure he'll work with offensive coordinator Gilbride and figure all this out, but it's a shame to see him struggle like this against the Browns on Monday Night Football.
