I have to admit there was time during the 2007 New York Giants season that I thought Eli Manning was not going to be the Giants quarterback much longer.  After his horrendous performance against the Minnesota Vikings in week 14 when he threw 3 interceptions which were returned for touchdowns, the future for Eli Manning in New York looked bleak.  The fans were booing and and radio call in shows were calling for his head.  The following week against the Chicago Bears he started off slow again and almost threw another interception in the end zone.  It was at this time that I thought maybe it would be best for Eli to leave town.  But he managed to rally the team in the 4th quarter and the Ciants prevailed.  Even so Eli was still on shaky ground.

Things began to change however in the final week of the regualr season. The Giants were playing the New England Patriots.  In all reaity the game meant nothing to the Giants, they had already secured a playoff spot.  But the Patriots were trying to become the 4th team in NFL history to finish the season undefeated.  The entire Giants team played with a sense of purpose and gave the Patriots everything they could handle.  Even though the Giants lost, Eli Manning had a great game and threw 4 touchdown passes.  But something greated was happening, Eli Manning was playing with a confidence that he had not shown in his 4 seasons with the Giants.

There aren't many phrases as sweet as Pitchers and Catchers, and they report to Port St Lucie in just 12 days.  I cannot wait for the season to start with Johan Santana in the fold 2008 is shaping up to be a memorable season.  I said the same thing last year at this time and 2007 turned memorable for all the wrong reasons.  But that was last year and we can forget about it.

 Johan Santana, Pedro Martinez, John Maine, Oliver Perez and Orlando Hernandez (for now).  If this is not the best staff in the league it is definitely in the top 2.

What a win last night by Big Blue, a complete team effort.  The defense was phenomenal, the offense was solid and the Giants did what no one thought they could.  I will admit I thought the Giants would hang tough and give the Patriots a run for the money, and in the end the Patriots would find a way to win, as they always do.  I really expected this game to be like the last game of the season.  But as the game went on, the Giants just competely outplayed them.  They were the better team last night.  Once Eli Manning completed the pass to David Tyree, I knew destiny was on our side. 

The Defense made Tom Brady look uncomfortable all night with 5 sacks.  And they held the most prolific offense in the NFL to only 14 points.  The MVP of the game could easily have been a member of the defense.

In his 4th season Eli Manning has led the New York Giants to the Super Bowl. It is too early to call Eli one of the greatest quarterbacks in Giants history, but he is well on his way. Here is a look at some of the greatest quarterbacks in New York Giants History.

1) Phil Simms (1979-1993) When Phil Simms was drafted in the first round with the 7th overall pick, New York Giant fans booed the pick. But when he retired after the 1993 season, you could not find a Giants fan who did not love Phil. Phil Simms led the New York Giants to their first Super Bowl victory in 1986 when the Giants defeated the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI. It was the Giants first league championship since 1956. Phil Simms was named MVP of Super Bowl XXI by completing 22 of 25 passes for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns. Phil Simms finished his career with 199 touchdown passes and 33,462 yards both first on the Giants all-time list. Phil Simms passed for over 3,000 yards 6 times in his career. Phil’s number 11 was retired by the New York Giants.
