New York Giants - Paul Stengel

-The Giants should’ve never released Brandon London after preseason.  He had 4 catches for Miami last Saturday in their playoff loss to the Ravens.  He’s no Plaxico Burress, but he’s 6’4 and has very good speed and agility.  He also plays with a lot of heart and seemed to fit in with the Giants overall attitude of wanting to prove something.  But I digress…

-Things I hope the Giants coaches will do:

1) Start Kenny Phillips at FS: this seems like a no-brainer although I doubt it will happen.  The Giants current starting safeties have been getting beat on a lot of long TDs the last few weeks, and Phillips every down at FS would be a changeup that the Eagles probably wouldn’t gameplan for.

2) Start Kehl at WLB – Kehl is by far the fastest linebacker on the team and probably the only one who can make plays in coverage.  The Giants OLB’s have been underwhelming for what seems like a very long time.  Hopefully he starts over Blackburn.

The Giants played arguably one of the gutsiest games in the franchise’s history by taking down the NFC’s best team- the Dallas Cowboys- in their divisional playoff match-up (Sunday, Jan. 13) at Texas Stadium with a 21-17 victory.

Here are some thoughts from the game:

*Eli Manning played another solid game today completing 12-of-18 passes for 163 yards and connecting for two touchdowns with Amani Toomer. The Giants most important touchdown of the game came in the final minute of the first half as Eli drove the team down field in thirty six seconds (which were highlighted by two Steve Smith catches and the aid of a Jacques Reeves facemask penalty) for a touchdown which give the team a big morale boost going into the half with the game tied at 14. Like many in the media have stated already (but I’ll say it again) Eli has grown a great deal since the end of the regular season and has continued to show maturity and toughness in the past two weeks and any doubts of coming through in big games, should have been erased with today’s performance.
