Plaxico Burress- who needs him?
While watching the Big Blue march up and down the field against the Redskins in the first quarter today, it's hard to tell what is missing from the offense. The Giants have a plethora of young, hungry receivers, led by Domenik Hixon and Steve Smith, as well as the always quietly reliable Amani Toomer. The Giants can obviously win without the loquacious diva Burress, so why should they even attempt to keep him around after his latest off-field exploits? Sure, he is an incredible talent. His size makes him a dangerous weapon in the red zone, when he is able to post-up against smaller defenders, ala last year's Super Bowl game winner. But all of the negative attention Plaxico brings far outweighs any benefits to the Giants offense. He routinely misses practices and meetings and is constantly bringing attention to himself. I say let him go. I have played sports at a high level (my TEAM won an NCAA national championship in lacrosse) and I know from experience that success comes only when all members of a team buy in to the TEAM concept. I am sorry for Plaxico's latest self-inclicted injury and hope he has a speedy recovery. But here's hoping his rehab takes place as a member of the Cowboys. They seem to like individuals more than teammates. Good riddance!
