As the Giants are preparing for their first Super Bowl appearance in seven years, both fans and the N.Y. media are starting to wonder if the team and Eli Manning are better off without Jeremy Shockey. The answer to this question is one thousand percent NO. Now I'm not saying that the stats can't provide a good argument in this case, but I ask these people to consider this.
1. How much of the Giants success running the football is a direct result of having the best blocking tight end in the game?
2. How do you recreate the passion and fire that Shockey brings to the field? For example, getting your helmet knocked off and then still taking the ball 20 extra yards.
3. How much do we really now about Kevin Boss? While Boss has been a pleasant surprise and has shown steady hands, can he really be the impact player Shockey has been?
4. Shockey will never put up the types of numbers he did under Jim Fassel. Fassel used Shockey more as a receiver rather than an extra Offensive Lineman. If you look up his stats, the only reason his production has gone down is because of the number of times he is thrown to.
Sunday night when we are sitting back and watching our beloved Jints take on the Pats, ask yourself this question, besides Toomer and Strahan, is there anyone more True Blue Than Jeremy Shockey?
