As quoted from GIANTS, 70 years of Championship football, by John Steinbreder, published in 1994, from page 8, quoted from Ken Kavanaugh, Giants Scout:
"I coached for the Giants from 1955 to 1970, and Wellington and I used to sit up in the stands together during games.  We were in the front row of the upper deck at Yankke Stadium, and we'd take pictures of the offensive and defensive formations with one of those instant cameras, then stuff the photos inside a sock weighted down with football cleats and toss them down to our bench.  It's the same sort of thing they do today, only with a much better communication system."
The more things change the more they stay the same.

The future Hall of Fame Patriots QB, Tom Brady, on WEEI, Boston, regarding the Giants and their Championship:
"It was really a great game.  I wish we would've played better at certain times, but the Giants made the plays and they deserved it. And I have a lot of resepct for that team because they work hard, and they have a lot of great leaders on that team.  It's kind of a blue collar team.  When you do lose a game, you at least want to lose to guys you respect.  And I certainly respect those guys.  I don't respect everybody, but I do respect the Giants."
Later in the interview, Brady continued...regarding the Super Bowl loss...
"It was numbing.  Just before halftime, on the strip sack, Randy (Moss) was behind the defense, but we just weren't able to find him in time.  That should have been a touchdown."  Regarding the last long heave..."Aw, man, when I let that go, I thought we had it, I thought that was it. (Broken up by Corey Webster, thanks very much!)

CB Corey Webster drew tough assignments during the playoff run, covering the opponent's top receivers including Owens and Moss, two of the best ever. So we know he can do it.  What are the essential ingredients which insure continued high-level defensive back play? Good health and confidence. So far, Webster's dictionary includes the game winning interception in the NFC Championship game, in OT, at Lambeau, picking off Brett Favre's last pass.  Not bad. Member of the 2007 World Champion New York Giants.  Also not bad. The most important entry?  He's just coming into his prime, playing in a scheme that features athleticism.  A dash of heightened confidence, add the spice of experience -- knowing how to take care of the instrument, the weapon, the body, keeping it healthy.  Webster has

Everyone is fast in the NFL.  Burst. Speed. Explosiveness.  These are essential tools.  There are drills that develop specific muscles, including the brain which is a muscle of sorts, to cultivate flash and the momentary separation that is all you get in this league where everyone is fast and quick.  This weekend's Giants mini-camp for rookies was valuable because it demonstrated the urgency of cultivating burst without injury. Which brings me to the maturation process of high caliber athletes. Soft Tissue injuries are something that can be prevented, a little preventive maintenance everyday, stretching, weight work, free weight work, yoga, and proper nutrition feed this kind of development -- a regimen -- an everyday routine. So when the brain buys into the notion that soft tissue inj

I've refrained from writing this post until now because Mother's day is tomorrow and this is the appropriate time for reflection on the relationship of sports and life.  I had the grand misfortune to lose my mother on January 23, in the midst of the Giants incredible run to the Championship.  During this incredibly difficult time, the only distraction and source of joy had been the New York Football Giants and the masterful playoff performance of Quarterback Eli Manning.  That Championship game in Green Bay should be remembered as one of the best in NFL history. (THANKS PLAXICO BURRESS as well).  When the harshest realities of life hit you square in the jaw like a Joe Frazier left hook, after you wake up and get off the canvas, you discover that despite the ugliness and temporary natu

Rookie mini-camp starts today.  This is going to be fun.  S Phillips covering WR Manningham in individual drills.  A. Woodson tossing the ball.  Kehl and Goff: two smart, fast, tough, young linebackers. RFA S Warrick covering UFA WR Hall.  A new bunch of behemoths up front.  Swift young DE candidates who can smell the coffee regarding Strahan's possible (probable) retirement.  This is the beginning for these athletes.  Hope they don't wilt under the iron gaze of Coach Coughlin.  Hope they do not drop the ball.  Hope, a rare and wonderful commodity, especially sweet as the training begins.  Rejoice all Giants fans.  We are The Champs.  The march toward a repreat begins today.

E. Butler, Mississippi State, 6-3", 255lbs.  Interesting, but Shockey isn't going anywhere.  Let's see how the mending TE responds this year.  Does he play all 16 plus games?
