Dear Giants Season Ticket Holder:

As the Giants prepare to defend the Super Bowl championship, and with construction of a new state-of-the-art stadium and team practice facility well underway at the Meadowlands, these are exciting times for Giants fans.

The new stadium and practice facility are scheduled to open for the 2010 season and will offer Giants players, coaches and, most importantly, Giants fans the first-class facilities, services and amenities they deserve. 

The stadium has been designed to provide fans with an unparalleled experience on Giants game days including: modernized food service, concessions, and restaurants; expanded team stores; tailgate zones, with improved tailgating facilities; upgraded and additional restrooms; Club seats with outstanding amenities; wider concourses; cutting-edge scoreboards that have in-stadium technology; and much more.  The experience of getting to the stadium will be better too, with improved highway access, redesigned parking lots, and a new rail line serving New Jersey and New York.  These improved amenities, together with the new state-of-the-art playing and training facilities, will position the Giants to attract championship-caliber players year after year.

It wasn't a very good year
When the Bears released running back Cedric Benson last week, it highlighted how poorly the top draft selections from 2005 have fared in the NFL. Benson was the fourth selection in the draft, and he's now out of a job. Any of the league's other 31 clubs could have claimed him on waivers, and not one took the bait. Yet Benson isn't alone among top-10 picks looking to reemerge. Cornerback Pacman Jones (No. 6) and receivers Troy Williamson (No. 7) and Mike Williams (No. 10) are already with their second teams. Meanwhile, quarterback Alex Smith (No. 1) is in a battle to hold down the starting job in San Francisco, while Antrel Rolle (No. 8) is being moved to safety in Arizona after failing to excel at cornerback. It's difficult to criticize running backs Ronnie Brown (No. 2) and Cadillac Williams (No. 5) - as well as cornerback Carlos Rogers (No. 9) - who are attempting to come back from serious knee injuries that knocked them out in 2007. But at this point, other than Browns receiver Braylon Edwards (No. 3), this looks like the shakiest top 10 in recent memory. In a do-over, Cowboys outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware (No. 11) would probably be the No. 1 pick.

Although the genesis of the diagreement is unknown, Shockey said last week he was unhappy the Giants made him sit in co-owner Steve Tisch's luxury box instead of letting him stay on the field during Super Bowl XLII. He also said Giants spread rumors he wanted a trade.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Shockey's mental state hasn't gotten much better during the three-day minicamp, which finished Friday at Giants Stadium .

"There is an issue, but it is not something that would prevent him from working," Coughlin told the Record.

Jeremy Shockey does not sound like a happy camper. And the disgruntled tight end might not make it to the Giants' minicamp on Wednesday. Making his first public comments since breaking his leg last December, a defensive Shockey pointed the finger at the Giants for all the offseason speculation about his future and reported unhappiness. And, perhaps indicating a rift with the only pro team he has ever played for, Shockey left the question of whether he would attend the mandatory minicamp up in the air. "Unlike the Giants, I am going to be quiet. They have released multiple things about myself, and if you look back into the media (reports), there is always a source. Well, I would like to know who the source is. I haven't said one negative thing towards the Giants in the newspapers," he said.

The Giants recently ripped up the former left guard's old contract and rewarded him with a new six-year, $31 million contract. The key to the deal is annual escalator clauses that increase Diehl's salaries between $750,000 and $1.1 million a year as long as he plays offensive tackle.

The ring's top is covered in diamonds and features three Super Bowl trophies accented with marquise diamonds signifying the Giants' Super Bowl XXI, XXV and XLII victories. The team's "NY" logo is in bead set round diamonds, while "World Champions" is emblazoned in raised letters on the top and bottom bezel, with channel set diamonds on left and right bezel.

The ring's shanks celebrate the Giants' season, noting the team's "Eleven Straight on the Road," an NFL record; the NFL shield; and player name, along with player number in raised letters appear on one shank.
